Q & A with Kay-Ann McKenzie, one of the makers of On Point.

Internationally certified professional make-up artists Kay-Ann McKenzie of Epiphany and Narda Lawful- Simpson of NarDanae will host their On.Point Make-up Workshop on Saturday, October 1st at The Hotel Four Seasons at 9:00 am.

We sat down with Kay-Ann Mckenzie to understand and get additional information on the event. Here is what she had to say.

Q What made you decide to go into make-up artistry?

A My interest in makeup artistry developed out of curiosity. As a movie lover, I was always fascinated with how characters came together from Cleopatra to the Wolverine and as basic as Cinderella.

Q It is said that all small business owners have failed at some point in their business tenure:

Name one thing in your business that you failed at, what you did to rise above it and what that experience taught you.

A Just starting out, I believe I failed at absorbing too much negativity. Listening to and actually believing people who told me I could and wouldn’t make it as an artist and that was a distraction that stopped me for seeing the true potential within me sooner. To rise above that, I had to find the difference between passion & curiosity which later led me challenging myself even more to then discover, for there to be passion there must be curiosity as well which is what will drive passion even deeper.

Q You were the second-place winner in the Make-Up category of the JN Small Business Loans (JNSBL) Barber and Beauty competition held in April. What can you say was your biggest take away from that competition, how it challenged you and your abilities?

A I am never one who likes the spotlight at all. The competition for sure helped me to build my social skills and confidence and provided for me an opportunity to challenge myself.

Q You are one of the main persons behind the planning and organizing of On Point Hands-on Make-up Workshop, tell us about this event. Specifically date, time and location?
